Storms

Tonight I sit on my couch with my almost warn out laptop, and all I can think about is how severe is this storm going to be tonight! They have been calling for a severe thunderstorm all week for tonight. Now for most people that means some minor disturbances while they are sleeping. For me it means I will be awake from the first clap of thunder to the last flash of lightning.

Everytime there is a storm or something I try to figure out why I get so worked up. Why am I so afraid of thunderstorms?! It as I am approaching almost 30 years of age, I fear that this fear will be with me for the rest of my life. But more than that, I fear that I will pass this ridiculous fear on to the children that I hope to have someday.

The craziest part about this fear is that I have found that I can over come the fear if I am standing in a classroom with 30 children, who need me. I have been through severe storms with them, and though I am shaking from head to toe, but I was strong. However, when I am on my own, it is really rough!

The whole point of tonight's ramble is that yes they scare me and yes I am trying to over come it. Sometimes when it storms I am making progress, other times I take two steps back.

What are you afraid of? Are you working to overcome your fear? What kind of progress have you made? I'm sure we all have a fear we are working on. I think the greatest part is making sure that we continue to face our fears and with God's kind and merciful hands we will overcome them!

Good night!

  1. flying.....I am scared to death to fly! In the past I could fly because of a little peach pill and the bar located in the terminal! Today, with a 19 month old, I can't do that! I continue to fly, so the fear isn't stopping me. But I HATE IT!!! it's the up and down and turbulence that get me every time! I do ALOT of praying! I mean ALOT!!!
Whats funny about it is....this last week, I had nightmares for 4 nights about my greatest fears! one night it was snakes....EVERYWHERE
the next was Jonas kept falling down a flight of spiral stairs
and another was a plane taking off and the roof coming off...this in turn cause all of the passengers to come flying out as the plane turned upside down...the first person out was Jeff Gordon....not sure why! LOL!!!
Funny thing about all the dreams, was no one was injured or died! so maybe that is God's way of telling my my fears are unfounded and I need to continue to trust that he will keep me safe!

  2. Beth,
Thanks for sharing. The amazing thing is I have been studying the book of Esther and just last week we started talking about our What IFs? These things could easily be translated to What I Fear? The devil uses these things to work on us, because he can, he knows it will get to us all the time. The thing we have to remember is our relationship with Jesus will get us through it IF it happens. God doesn't promise to keep us from our fears, but he does promise to get us through them. Thank you so much for sharing!

PS if you ever get a chance the Beth Moore study on Esther is really good! I'm only on week 5 but I am learning a lot.
